OUR VISION STATEMENT

A Somalia where transgender people live freely, safely, and proudly — with dignity, acceptance, and equal rights.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

To defend, empower, and uplift transgender people in Somalia by promoting safety, equality, and access to essential rights and services.

Transforming ideas into impact.

About us.

Hillaac Trans is a transgender-led movement founded in 2020 to amplify the voices of transgender and gender-diverse people in Somalia, a community that too often silenced by fear, stigma, and violence. In a country, where being transgender can mean rejection, persecution, or even death, Hillaac Trans stands as a beacon of courage, resilience, and hope.

Our movement created to empower young transgender individuals to speak up for their rights and to build safe spaces where they can live with dignity and authenticity. We are proud that 99% of our staff, leadership, and board members are transgender people. Trans people are at the heart of every decision that our movement make from setting our strategic direction to determining our financial priorities. We believe that those most affected must lead the movement for change.

Hillaac Trans works at the intersections of gender, culture, and human rights, confronting the multiple layers of marginalization that Tran’s communities face in Somalia. We provide education, training, and advocacy for religious leaders, traditional elders, youth and women’s groups, and local and state institutions fostering understanding and reducing the stigma surrounding transgender identities.

We strive to ensure access to trans-affirming healthcare, including mental health counseling (individual and family), HIV prevention and care, and support for overall wellbeing.
